The Iraqi Health Ministry disclosed the figures on Thursday through spokesperson Saif al-Badr, signalling an escalating threat that has prompted coordinated responses across multiple government agencies and heightened public awareness efforts throughout the country.

The most recent epidemiological snapshot reveals ongoing transmission, with 14 fresh cases and one additional fatality recorded in the most recent weekly reporting cycle. The death occurred in Nineveh province in northern Iraq, underlining the geographical spread of a disease that knows few regional boundaries within the nation. The weekly case count demonstrates that despite containment measures, the virus continues to find new victims, raising concerns about the trajectory of the outbreak as the year progresses.

Geographically, the southern region bears the heaviest burden. Dhi Qar province has emerged as the epicentre of the current outbreak, accumulating 119 confirmed cases—nearly 40 per cent of the national total—alongside nine deaths.
