The resolution of the Bukit Kiara Longhouse residents' housing challenge underscores the government's dedication to addressing community needs without prolonging hardship across generations, according to Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan. The initiative will provide two new housing units at no cost to each qualifying family in the settlement.
Ramanan, who serves as the Sungai Buloh Member of Parliament, characterised the Prime Minister's decision as a decisive action against delayed solutions for ordinary Malaysians. He also acknowledged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's commitment of an extra RM1 million to Kuala Lumpur City Hall for the area's upkeep over three years.
Although the project's scope may appear limited in financial terms, Ramanan stressed that its significance for residents who have endured decades of uncertainty is substantial. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officially launched the permanent housing development scheme at a groundbreaking ceremony here today.
The longhouse residents' resettlement matter had remained unresolved for more than 40 years. Formal action taken by residents' advocates from 2018 onwards eventually produced an outcome that improves living standards while preserving Taman Rimba Kiara, sidestepping earlier contentious development proposals for the woodland area.
